En avril 1966, sortie du quatrième album anglais : “Aftermath” (#1 UK), produit par Andrew Loog Oldham.

“Mother’s little helper/Lady Jane” sortira en single en juin aux Etats-Unis (#8 US)

Egalement en avril sort le nouveau single américain, “Paint it, black (Jagger-Richards)/Stupid girl (Jagger-Richards)” (#1 US), qui sortira en mai en Angleterre  :  “Paint it, black (Jagger-Richards)/Long long while (Jagger-Richards)” (#1 UK).

Juin 1966, sortie du 6e album américain : “Aftermath” (#2 US) avec "Paint it black" mais sans "Mother's little helper", "Out of time", "Take it or leave it" et "What to do".

Septembre 1966, nouveau single : “Have you seen your mother baby, standing in the shadow? (Jagger-Richards)/Who’s driving your plane ? (Jagger-Richards)” (#5 UK-#9 US).

Deux titres psychédéliques sous une pochette choquante pour l’époque (les Stones déguisés en femmes), ce qui explique qu’il eut moins de succès que les singles précédents
